Our Patient and Public Engagement Committee
Our Patient and Public Engagement Committee (PPEC) has been set up to make sure the patient voice informs the decision making of the CCG. PPEC provides advice and guidance on the CCG’s approaches to patient and public engagement and reviews how engagement has been used to influence decisions made by the CCG. PPEC’s membership reflects the diverse make-up of the population of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
The Chair and Vice-Chair of PPEC have been appointed by the CCG. The Chair is a non-executive director of the Governing Body and a member of the Quality and Performance Committee. The Vice-Chair is a member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group. Both provide strong links between PPEC and the CCG’s governance arrangements.

Patient and Public Engagement Committee Members
Chitra Acharya
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Chitra is currently working with NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG as a Primary Care Network Development Manager. Chitra has many Patient Leader roles including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Integrated Care System along with being a Peer Leader with NHS England. Chitra is an NHS Volunteer Responder, a National NHS App Ambassador, and a Digital Champion in Nottinghamshire. Chitra is a Parent Representative at Rainbow Parent Carer Forum, a Patient and Public Representative at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, a Parent Representative at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust CAMHS Young People Involvement Team, and an associate of peoplehub. Chitra is also a member of a number of patient groups including Public Facing Digital Services Patient Advisory Group, My Life Choices Nottinghamshire Personalised Care Strategic Coproduction Group, and NHS England Personalise Care Strategic Coproduction Group, representing carers and as an expert in personalised care.
Chitra volunteers for organisations/charities such as Nottingham Hospitals Charity, Rainbows Hospice for children and young people, Disability Support for Nottingham and County, Bingham Penguins disability swimming club committee, Cerebral Palsy Sport, and Cancer Research UK. Chitra is a computer scientist with a PhD in Human Computer Interaction and Patient Safety. Chitra has previously worked as a Programme Manager in the USA/India and as a Senior Lecturer at University.
During her spare time Chitra enjoys many sports such as running, swimming, cricket, and badminton. Chitra is a trained dancer and enjoys performing on stage.
Sue Clague
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Independent Chair.
Sue Clague is a non-executive director of the NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG Governing Body, Quality and Performance Committee and Prioritisation and Investment Committee.
Sue Clague is an experienced senior director with a background of senior roles in the UK, Europe and the United States, with managing director posts at Courtaulds and Pretty Polly. Sue has a proven track record of successfully driving organisational change and of creating and delivering business strategies resulting in sustained improvements, always with a customer and outcome focus.
In addition to her non-executive work she has a number of voluntary roles and acts as a mentor on an ad hoc basis.
Jasmine Howell
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Independent Vice Chair.
Along with supporting the PPEC Jasmine also provides support for the Black, Ethnic, Minority Communities and assists with recruitment for foster carers. Jasmine also has previous experience as a Safeguarding Coordinator and Community Family Support Manager in Education and Residential Social Care.
In her spare time Jasmine enjoys reading.
Kerry Devine
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Along with supporting the PPEC Kerry is also the Interim CEO at Improving Lives which supports people with complex health and social needs including mental health issues. Kerry has previously been a social worker and probation officer and has worked in a Community Mental Health Team.
Paul Midgley
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Paul Midgley is currently an NHS Insight and Account Director within a Healthcare company offering local NHS variation through analysis of data and documentation. Paul has previously had experience in sales, training and management at various pharmaceutical companies.
Teresa Burgoyne
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Teresa currently runs the British Lung Foundation (BLF) Support Group Breathe Easy Nottingham West as a volunteer. She is currently assisting in setting up a Community hub in Eastwood and is involved in local charities raising money. Teresa is also the PPG Chair for a Nottingham Practice and is also a member of the Primary Care South Notts ICP Quality Group. She is a patient leader and representative for the Broxtowe PCN, Connect Notts and 3 National Research Projects.
Previously Teresa has worked as a Registered Nurse for over 32 years including becoming a Sister in Intensive care and a Respiratory Nurse Specialist. Teresa has 10 years experience as a nurse representative on the Queens Medical Centre Ethics Committee.
In her spare time Teresa enjoys playing golf and looking after her grandchildren.
Gilly Hagen
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Gilly currently represents the Sherwood Locality for Patient Participation Groups (PPGs). Prior to retiring in 2011 Gilly was manager of the Multi Agency Criminal Justice Drugs Team, a joint project between the NHS, Probation Service, Probation Courts and Prisons.. She has been an active volunteer with the NHS & PPG locally since 2008. After retiring she was a volunteer trainer on the Notts Healthcare Trust Self Care courses from 2011 to 2015. Gilly has undertaken the East Midlands Patient Leadership Course and has been Newark & Sherwood representative since 2012. During 2017 Gilly was the N & S representative on the Mid Notts Patient Reference Group (MNPRG) that fed information into the CCG Boards. Gilly is also involved with the Better Together Citizens Board, which is now the Citizens Council and the ICSC Mid Notts Cancer Forum. Member of the N.U.H. Macmillan support group, and currently giving a patients voice in the development of the CCGs M.S.K. Strategy.
Within Sherwood Forest Hospitals Gilly is the `End of Life’ lead volunteer for the trust. Since 2010 she has been a volunteer supporting patients from the City Hospital Pain Team. During the pandemic she has been active setting up the charity `Blidworth on The Move Support Network’ which supports isolated and vulnerable patients.
Daniel Robertson
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Daniel currently works for the Into the Mainstream health project at Nottingham and Notts Refugee Forum to assist asylum seekers and refugees to access health services in the local area. In addition to client work, he delivers training in best practice when working with these groups for GP practices, trainee doctors and mental health staff. He is the author of a report into the experiences of asylum seekers and refugees in Nottingham and has spoken at events organised by the New Economics Foundation and Migrants Organise.
In his spare time, Daniel enjoys reading, cycling and making music.
Amdani Juma
Public and Patient Engagement Committee Member.
Amdani currently works for The African Institute for Social Development (AISD). Amdani’s community involvement goes back 25 years from Red Cross, Humanitarian, Refugee Activism, HIV Health Advocate, and currently NNRF trustee, Chair of Nottingham Sports Group.
Amdani has also achieved MA Public Health, Determinants of Health at Nottingham Trent University October 2019. He also has experience as a Health Promotion Specialist at Terrence Higgins Trust July 2015/18, BME Health Improvement Practitioner THT Oct 2010/ July 2015 and floating Support/Housing Officer at NNRF 2003/2010.
