Today marks the launch of Mental Health Awareness Week which runs from 9-15 May.
This year, the theme for the week is loneliness. One in four adults feel lonely some or all of the time and this can lead to mental health problems. However, taking simple steps can help reduce loneliness and its impact.
If you are concerned about your mental health, or you are worried about the mental health of a relative or someone you care for, you should contact your GP or refer yourself to Talking Therapies.

Talking therapy services are free NHS services for anyone over 18. They accept self-referrals or referral via your GP and provide support for people who are experiencing anxiety, depression or stress, and can help people manage the psychological and emotional impact of long term health conditions such as diabetes or cancer. The Nottinghamshire Mental Health Helpline offers access to support for people who need emotional support or information about their mental health. You can call 0808 196 3779. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The service works alongside the Nottinghamshire Crisis Line, providing personalised advice, emotional support and information on coping mechanisms.
Professionals are also welcome to call the helpline for advice on working with patients with mental health issues. A team of supportive mental health workers are on hand to provide information and advice e.g. techniques that people can use to manage anxiety. They will also be able to direct people to other services where needed.
Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust have a mental health helpline for local people in crisis. The helpline number is 0808 196 3779 and is available to anyone in mental health crisis at anytime, anywhere across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Available 24 hours a day, seven-days a week, it’s the number to call if you are experiencing a mental health crisis and need immediate help. It’s open to people of all ages who need urgent mental health support.
Crisis Sanctuaries provides mental health crisis support to the communities of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The Crisis Sanctuaries are for anyone near, or at crisis who need a safe space to talk. Find out more: https://www.nottinghamshirecrisissanctuaries.tv/
The NottAlone website includes advice and information on local services available. It is designed to be used by children and young people up to age 25, parents/carers and professionals.
Be U Notts is a free early mental health and emotional wellbeing support service for children and young people up to age 25 in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The free service includes 121 counselling, group therapy, online counselling and more depending on your needs.

If you need support with your mental health, you can refer yourself to NHS psychological therapies (IAPT) services.

IAPT can also provide employment support as part of your psychological therapy. They can help with things like looking for work, help if you are experiencing problems at work or returning to work after sickness absence.
