Latest hospital figures:
Dr Andy Haynes, Executive Lead, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, said: “The increase in Covid positive cases within our hospitals has started to accelerate over the Christmas period which is very concerning. We are seeing the numbers of admissions increase and sadly the numbers of deaths across our region has started to increase too.
“We must all do our bit to try and control the acceleration of infections and reduce the pressure on our hospitals and healthcare settings. It is imperative that people follow the new Tier 4 restrictions to help do this, especially over the New Year period. Under the new Government guidance you cannot leave or be outside of your home unless you have a reasonable excuse, you cannot meet other people indoors unless they are part of your support bubble and outdoors, you can only meet one person from another household.
“However, healthcare is a specific exemption from these rules and your NHS is still here for you. GPs are open as usual outside of bank holidays and if you are unsure which service you need always call 111 or go to 111 online first. Don’t go to A&E unless it is an emergency and always follow national guidance when in a healthcare setting.
“I know these measures have been difficult, especially over the Christmas period. The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire mental health advice line is available 9am-11pm, 7 days a week. If you’re struggling with mental health issues and need to talk to someone, you can call 0300 555 0730 for emotional support.”
Remember:
The NHS is here for you and so if you are concerned about a new lump or mole or have any other health issues then please get in touch with your GP or in an emergency call 999. If you are unsure which service you need, call 111 or go to 111 Online who will advise you on the best service for your needs.
If you have symptoms of coronavirus, including a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of smell or taste, then get a test by calling 119 or go online to https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
The best way that we can all help with the situation is by following the Tier 4: Stay at Home guidance but remember that healthcare is a specific exemption – so if you are ill please get in touch like you would usually and stick to your appointments unless you hear otherwise.
The vaccine rollout has begun across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. During January Local Vaccination Services at GP surgeries and other community sites will start to open across Nottinghamshire. The public should wait to be contacted rather than contacting their GP or the NHS.
The public have an important part to play to help:
• please don’t contact the NHS to seek a vaccine, we will contact you
• when we do contact you, please attend your booked appointments
• and please continue to follow all the guidance to control the virus and save lives.
