A mother and son have described how proud they are of each other while working together at a vaccination site in Nottingham.
Liz Harris and her son, George, have been working together at the Forest Recreation Vaccination Site delivering vaccines to the most vulnerable people in the city.
Liz, the site operational manager, set up the vaccination site and is key to making sure it runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
George, 22, who is studying for a pharmacology masters at Nottingham Trent University, decided to volunteer at the site in January and after realising how much he enjoyed helping, he applied to become a vaccinator.
He said: “My degree is all about the science of drugs and so naturally I was keen to volunteer and be involved in this programme. I started off just helping with unpacking boxes and volunteering but then after realising how much I enjoyed being a part of it, I decided to apply to be a vaccinator.
“I then did all the training involved and started doing shifts where I vaccinated people and it has been a brilliant experience. Everyone is so grateful to receive the vaccine and the positivity at the site is amazing to be a part of.”
George, who delivers more than 100 vaccines each shift, said he thinks working at the same site as his mum has “brought them closer together.”
He added: “It is hard to explain how it feels but seeing my mum working at the site has filled me with such a great sense of pride.”
Speaking of how working at the site has been over the last few months, Liz said: “We have people from all walks of life and professions working together as a team at the site and it is really fantastic to be a part of.
“The positivity of the staff and seeing how grateful the public are to receive the vaccine makes all the hard work worthwhile. Seeing George outside of the family environment and supporting the vaccination programme has also been very special, I am very proud of him.”
