Local GPs will be supporting the final push of vaccinations in older persons care homes from Friday 22 January and over the weekend to ensure care home residents and staff receive their vaccinations.
As a result, some GP practices will not be operating as usual on Friday 22 January during their usual practice hours. Typically these are the smaller practices or those with large numbers care home residents, or both. Most practices will operate as normal. However, patients are still be able to get medical advice and support they need by calling their practice as normal and they will advice them on who to call. All patients with existing appointments who are affected, have been contacted. These arrangements are for Friday only.
A list of the practices not operating as usual on Friday is below.
In line with national advice, residents and staff in older persons care homes are being prioritised for vaccination, with the expectation all older people’s care home residents and staff across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire will be offered vaccination by this Sunday, 24th January.
The local roving team has been vaccinating residents and staff in care homes across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire since late December and GPs will also be joining the programme to be provide support.
Some care home staff have already been vaccinated at a Hospital Hub or local vaccination service.
Stephen Shortt, Joint Clinical Leader at NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG, said: “As part of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, it’s hugely important that we ensure residents and staff in older persons care homes are vaccinated as soon as possible. GPs are trained and experienced to deliver the vaccination in order to keep the communities in Nottinghamshire safe.
To support this, some GP practices will be operating differently on Friday during their usual practice hours, however patients can still get the medical support they need through alternative methods. All patients who had appointments that might be impacted have been contacted and anyone who is seeking urgent medical care or advice is advised to contact their practice as usual they will advise you on the best place to call for the service you need.”
All practices will be open as normal on Monday 25th January.” For more information on the vaccine roll out visit https://nottm-ccg-archive.ginger-root.co.uk/covid-19/
